Thoughts on Silverlight

When Written: June 2008

Currently Flash will do a lot of what Silverlight does and will do it on almost all platforms including mobile devices, whereas Silverlight 2 player will not run on the older Power PC Apple Macs, nor older processors or currently any phone other than a select few of Nokia devices. Silverlight has a few tricks up its sleeve and the more I look and learn the more about Silverlight more of these neat tricks appear.

If Microsoft could address the problems of Silverlight not running on a lot of machines out there then we could have a big success story on our hands, otherwise it may well be consigned to being one of those niche products that we reminisce about over a pint in the pub in a few years time. I hope not otherwise I really am wasting my time writing this article.
